Audrey Hepburn

Audrey Hepburn The actress Audrey Hepburn would have been 80 this year (2009). She was born on the 4th May 1929 in Brussels Belgium. Hepburn wasn't just an actress she also became known for her charity work. She nearly died at 6 weeks old after catching the whooping cough virus. As a child during the Second World War while living in Holland she would pass secret messages to the allies. Hiding them in her shoes. So they would hopefully not be able to find them if they became suspicious. Children were used to carry messages as the Germans were less likely to suspect them.
Her father left her mother when she was 6 years - old and apart from seeing him briefly when she was 10. There seems to have been no other contact with him
until she was around 30 years - old. When she did meet him again it was a sad reunion as her father was unable to show any love or emotion towards her. But despite everything she forgave her father for his inadequacies and his absence throughout her life. Although there was nothing between them they were more like strangers than father and daughter. She did help him financially but she had little contact with him probably because they were unable to have a proper father daughter relationship. This shows what a kind, forgiving and generous person
she was.
Audrey Hepburn wanted most of all to be a ballerina but when it proved she wouldn't be the best dancer. She had to look for another career to be the best in. After taking on some modelling jobs and some acting roles. She became an actress starring in such films as Breakfast at Tiffany's, My Fair Lady, Funny Face, Roman Holiday, Charade and Sabrina. She got to know the fashion designer Hubert Givenchy and would wear a lot of his fashion designs in her films.
Her most important role was a wife and mother although she married several times and was divorced twice. Family was what came first she had 2 sons Sean Ferrer and Luca Dotti.
In the 1980's she became an ambassador for UNICEF visiting countries in need and helping to raise money for UNICEF. She adored children and wanted to help them. She also knew what it was like to go hungry as she had to survive on little food during the war, as food was so scarce.
Audrey Hepburn died of cancer on the 20th January 1993. Everybody loved and admired her, it seems nobody had a bad word to say about her. This is probably because of the type of person she was kind, loving, loyal, modest, generous and caring.
