Becoming an Architect

hard hat and blue prints If you have a desire to design buildings, as well as being able to restore and conserve old historic buildings and developing buildings that already exist. Then becoming an architect could be the career for you.
All the beautiful buildings have been designed by architects such as Christopher Wren who designed Saint Paul's Cathedral amongst other buildings.
Architects have to be able to advise clients, (on design and how to use space etc) prepare, present proposals
to them and be able to do detailed drawings. They will have to work
with contractors and others, deal with any problems that may occur
and visit sites to see how things are going. As well as an imagination and be interested in the environment. They normally work from 9 to 5 but they may require to work extra time in order to meet deadlines.
You will need a real drive and passion if you are to make it as an
architect.
It will take you 7 years to qualify as an architect. Part of your course will
be degree study at college and part will be on the job training at a firm
of architects. Subjects that you will need to have studied at A level and GCSE are science, English, language, maths and art. In order to be able
to practice as an architect you will have to register with The Architects registration Board.
Once qualified architects can work in architectural practices as they become more experienced they can rise to associate and from there to partner. There is also the opportunity once they have obtained some
experience of setting up on their own. There are opportunities to
work abroad as well.
