To forgive someone in my opinion is the most difficult thing to do. When someone brings about such terrible grief upon you and your family would you be able to forgive them? Yet forgiveness is essential if we are too survive and develop as a society.
Anthony Walker was murdered in July by two men in a vicious racist attack. As they were both found guilty of his murder the other day, Anthony Walker's mother spoke in a calm dignified way about forgiveness, which was extremely moving. She was forgiving them for what they did; hate and bitterness she knew would only destroy them.
God forgives and so should we but being human it is incredibly difficult. When I entered the word forgiveness into a search engine I noticed that word very much revolved round religion. Everybody will say that it was Mrs Walker's Christian faith that helped her. What though do people do who have no faith? We should as a society respect and care for each other. Be able to love, forgive and not submit to hate.
Abigail Witchalls was also viciously attacked, while walking with her young son. She nearly died from her injuries but she survived, as did her unborn baby. She has made great improvements despite suffering paralysis. She also recently gave birth to her second child bringing immense joy to her and her family. Both she and husband are devout Catholics, so it was no surprise to hear that despite her horrific injuries she forgave her attacker.
Both of these astonishing women and their families are a truly wonderful example to us all. They have shown courage, love, kindness, dignity and forgiveness. Their forgiveness is unconditional they refuse to have anything to do with revenge, because it's wrong and they will not be swallowed up by hate. Their brave stance is what we should all be striving towards.
